    [niv] I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.

    [niv] I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.
    [asv] having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in thee; which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and, I am persuaded, in thee also.
    [jnd] calling to mind the unfeigned faith which in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and in thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that in thee also.

    [niv] For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

    [niv] So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God,
    [asv] Be not ashamed therefore of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but suffer hardship with the gospel according to the power of God;
    [jnd] Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but suffer evil along with the glad tidings, according to the power of God;

    [niv] who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,

    [niv] but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
    [asv] but hath now been manifested by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,
    [jnd] but has been made manifest now by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has annulled death, and brought to light life and incorruptibility by the glad tidings;

    [niv] And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher.

    [niv] That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.
    [asv] For which cause I suffer also these things: yet I am not ashamed; for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed unto him against that day.
    [jnd] For which cause also I suffer these things; but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep for that day the deposit I have entrusted to him.

    [bbe] And for which I undergo these things: but I have no feeling of shame. For I have knowledge of him in whom I have faith, and I am certain that he is able to keep that which I have given into his care till that day.

    [niv] What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.
    [asv] Hold the pattern of sound words which thou hast heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
    [jnd] Have an outline of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which in Christ Jesus.
    [kjv] Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

    [niv] Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you--guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
    [asv] That good thing which was committed unto thee guard through the Holy Spirit which dwelleth in us.

    [niv] May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains.
    [asv] The Lord grant mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus: for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain;

    [niv] May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that day! You know very well in how many ways he helped me in Ephesus.
    [asv] (the Lord grant unto him to find mercy of the Lord in that day); and in how many things he ministered at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
    [jnd] the Lord grant to him to find mercy from Lord in that day -- and how much service he rendered in Ephesus *thou* knowest best.
