		[niv]	Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.

		[asv]	And Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of Jehovah. And Jehovah slew him.
		[jnd]	And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of Jehovah, and Jehovah slew him.

		[niv]	Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother."
		[asv]	And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother unto her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
		[jnd]	Then Judah said to Onan, Go in to thy brother's wife, and fulfil to her the brother-in-law's duty, and raise up seed to thy brother.
		[kjv]	And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

		[rsv]	Then Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife, and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother."

		[ylt]	And Judah saith to Onan, `Go in unto the wife of thy brother, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother;'
		[bbe]	Then Judah said to Onan, Go in to your brother's wife and do what it is right for a husband's brother to do; make her your wife and get offspring for your brother.
	38:9	[cbgb]	俄南知道生子不归自己，所以同房的时候便遗在地，免得给他哥哥留后。 < | >
		[niv]	But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother.
		[asv]	And Onan knew that the seed would not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.
		[jnd]	But when Onan knew that the seed should not be his own, it came to pass when he went in to his brother's wife, that he spilled on the ground, in order to give no seed to his brother.
		[kjv]	And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
		[nwb]	And Onan knew that the seed would not be his: and it came to pass, when he went in to his brother's wife, that he frustrated the purpose, lest he should give seed to his brother.
		[rsv]	But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother's wife he spilled the semen on the ground, lest he should give offspring to his brother.

		[ylt]	and Onan knoweth that the seed is not his; and it hath come to pass, if he hath gone in unto his brother's wife, that he hath destroyed to the earth, so as not to give seed to his brother;
		[bbe]	But Onan, seeing that the offspring would not be his, went in to his brother's wife, but let his seed go on to the earth, so that he might not get offspring for his brother.
	38:10	[cbgb]	俄南所作的在耶和华眼中看为恶，耶和华也就叫他死了。 < | >
		[niv]	What he did was wicked in the LORD's sight; so he put him to death also.
		[asv]	And the thing which he did was evil in the sight of Jehovah: and he slew him also.

		[kjv]	And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

	38:11	[cbgb]	犹大心里说，恐怕示拉也死，像他两个哥哥一样，就对他儿妇他玛说，你去，在你父亲家里守寡，等我儿子示拉长大。他玛就回去，住在她父亲家里。 < | >
		[niv]	Judah then said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, "Live as a widow in your father's house until my son Shelah grows up." For he thought, "He may die too, just like his brothers." So Tamar went to live in her father's house.
		[asv]	Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow in thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown up; for he said, Lest he also die, like his brethren. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.
		[jnd]	And Judah said to Tamar his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow in thy father's house, until Shelah my son is grown; for he said, Lest he die also, as his brethren. And Tamar went and remained in her father's house.
		[kjv]	Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.
		[nwb]	Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter-in-law, Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son shall be grown; (for he said, Lest perhaps he die also as his brethren ) and Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.
		[rsv]	Then Judah said to Tamar his daughter-in-law, "Remain a widow in your father's house, till Shelah my son grows up" --for he feared that he would die, like his brothers. So Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.
		[web]	Then Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, "Remain a widow in your father's house, until Shelah, my son, is grown up;" for he said, "Lest he also die, like his brothers." Tamar went and lived in her father's house.
		[ylt]	And Judah saith to Tamar his daughter-in-law, `Abide a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son groweth up;' for he said, `Lest he die -- even he -- like his brethren;' and Tamar goeth and dwelleth at her father's house.
		[bbe]	Then Judah said to Tamar, his daughter-in-law, Go back to your father's house and keep yourself as a widow till my son Shelah becomes a man: for he had in his mind the thought that death might come to him as it had come to his brothers. So Tamar went back to her father's house.
	38:12	[cbgb]	过了许久，犹大的妻子书亚的女儿死了。犹大得了安慰，就和他朋友亚杜兰人希拉上亭拿去，到他剪羊毛的人那里。 < | >
		[niv]	After a long time Judah's wife, the daughter of Shua, died. When Judah had recovered from his grief, he went up to Timnah, to the men who were shearing his sheep, and his friend Hirah the Adullamite went with him.
		[asv]	And in process of time Shua's daughter, the wife of Judah, died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheep-shearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
		[jnd]	And as the days were multiplied, Judah's wife, the daughter of Shua, died. And Judah was comforted, and he went up to his sheep-shearers, to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
		[kjv]	And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
		[nwb]	And in process of time, the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died: and Judah was comforted, and went up to his sheep-shearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
		[rsv]	In course of time the wife of Judah, Shua's daughter, died; and when Judah was comforted, he went up to Timnah to his sheepshearers, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.
		[web]	. After many days, Shua's daughter, the wife of Judah, died. Judah was comforted, and went up to his sheep-shearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah, the Adullamite.

		[bbe]	And after a time, Bath-shua, Judah's wife, came to her end; and after Judah was comforted for her loss, he went to Timnah, where they were cutting the wool of his sheep, and his friend Hirah of Adullam went with him.

		[niv]	When Tamar was told, "Your father-in-law is on his way to Timnah to shear his sheep,"

		[bbe]	And when Tamar had news that her father-in-law was going up to Timnah to the wool-cutting,

		[niv]	she took off her widow's clothes, covered herself with a veil to disguise herself, and then sat down at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah. For she saw that, though Shelah had now grown up, she had not been given to him as his wife.
		[asv]	And she put off from her the garments of her widowhood, and covered herself with her veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the gate of Enaim, which is by the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she was not given unto him to wife.

		[bbe]	She took off her widow's clothing, and covering herself with her veil, she took her seat near Enaim on the road to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was now a man, but she had not been made his wife.

		[niv]	When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face.
		[asv]	When Judah saw her, he thought her to be a harlot; for she had covered her face.

		[niv]	Not realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her by the roadside and said, "Come now, let me sleep with you." "And what will you give me to sleep with you?" she asked.
		[asv]	And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Come, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee: for he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?
		[jnd]	And he turned aside to her by the way, and said, Come, I pray thee, let me go in to thee; for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in to me?
		[kjv]	And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?
		[nwb]	And he turned to her by the way, and said, Come, I pray thee, let me have access to thee; (for he knew not that she his daughter-in-law:) and she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayst have access to me?
		[rsv]	He went over to her at the road side, and said, "Come, let me come in to you," for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. She said, "What will you give me, that you may come in to me?"
		[web]	He turned to her by the way, and said, "Please come, let me come in to you:" for he didn't know that she was his daughter-in-law.She said, "What will you give me, that you may come in to me?"
		[ylt]	and he turneth aside unto her by the way, and saith, `Come, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee,' (for he hath not known that she his daughter-in-law); and she saith, `What dost thou give to me, that thou mayest come in unto me?'
		[bbe]	And turning to her by the roadside, he said to her, Let me come in to you; for he had no idea that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, What will you give me as my price?
	38:17	[cbgb]	犹大说，我从羊群里取一只山羊羔，打发人送来给你。他玛说，在未送以先，你愿意给我一个当头麽， < | >
		[niv]	"I'll send you a young goat from my flock," he said. "Will you give me something as a pledge until you send it?" she asked.
		[asv]	And he said, I will send thee a kid of the goats from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?
		[jnd]	And he said, I will send a kid of the goats from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give a pledge, until thou send it?
		[kjv]	And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?
		[nwb]	And he said, I will send a kid from the flock: and she said, Wilt thou give a pledge, till thou sendest ?
		[rsv]	He answered, "I will send you a kid from the flock." And she said, "Will you give me a pledge, till you send it?"
		[web]	. He said, "I will send you a kid of the goats from the flock."She said, "Will you give me a pledge, until you send it?"
		[ylt]	and he saith, `I -- I send a kid of the goats from the flock.' And she saith, `Dost thou give a pledge till thou send ?'
		[bbe]	And he said, I will give you a young goat from the flock. And she said, What will you give me as a sign till you send it?
	38:18	[cbgb]	他说，我给你什么当头呢，他玛说，你的印，你的带子，和你手里的杖。犹大就给了她，与她同寝，她就从犹大怀了孕。 < | >
		[niv]	He said, "What pledge should I give you?" "Your seal and its cord, and the staff in your hand," she answered. So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him.
		[asv]	And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet and thy cord, and thy staff that is in thy hand. And he gave them to her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
		[jnd]	And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy lace, and thy staff which is in thy hand. And he gave her, and went in to her; and she conceived by him.
		[kjv]	And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
		[nwb]	And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? and she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that in thy hand: and he gave her, and came in to her, and she conceived by him.
		[rsv]	He said, "What pledge shall I give you?" She replied, "Your signet and your cord, and your staff that is in your hand." So he gave them to her, and went in to her, and she conceived by him.

		[bbe]	And he said, What would you have? And she said, Your ring and its cord and the stick in your hand. So he gave them to her and went in to her, and she became with child by him.
	38:19	[cbgb]	他玛起来走了，除去帕子，仍旧穿上作寡妇的衣裳。 < | >
		[niv]	After she left, she took off her veil and put on her widow's clothes again.
		[asv]	And she arose, and went away, and put off her veil from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.
		[jnd]	And she arose and went away; and she laid by her veil from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

		[niv]	Meanwhile Judah sent the young goat by his friend the Adullamite in order to get his pledge back from the woman, but he did not find her.
