    [niv] When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you.
    [asv] When thou goest forth to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, thou shalt not be afraid of them; for Jehovah thy God is with thee, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
    [jnd] When thou goest out to war against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, a people more numerous than thou, thou shalt not fear them; for Jehovah thy God is with thee, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

    [bbe] When you go out to war against other nations, and come face to face with horses and war-carriages and armies greater in number than yourselves, have no fear of them: for the Lord your God is with you, who took you up out of the land of Egypt.
20:2 [cbgb] 你们将要上阵的时候,祭司要到百姓面前宣告, < | >
    [niv] When you are about to go into battle, the priest shall come forward and address the army.
    [asv] And it shall be, when ye draw nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,
    [jnd] And it shall be, when ye approach unto the battle, that the priest shall draw near and speak unto the people,
    [kjv] And it shall be, when ye are come nigh unto the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak unto the people,
    [nwb] And it shall be when ye are come nigh to the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people,
    [rsv] And when you draw near to the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the people,
    [web] It shall be, when you draw near to the battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people,
    [ylt] and it hath been, in your drawing near unto the battle, that the priest hath come nigh, and spoken unto the people,
    [bbe] And when you are on the point of attacking, let the priest come forward and say to the people,
20:3 [cbgb] 说,以色列人哪,你们当听,你们今日将要与仇敌争战,不要胆怯,不要惧怕战兢,也不要因他们惊恐。 < | >
    [niv] He shall say: "Hear, O Israel, today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not be terrified or give way to panic before them.
    [asv] and shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye draw nigh this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint; fear not, nor tremble, neither be ye affrighted at them;
    [jnd] and shall say unto them, Hear, Israel, ye are approaching this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be afraid of them;
    [kjv] And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;
    [nwb] And shall say to them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day to battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them;
    [rsv] and shall say to them, 'Hear, O Israel, you draw near this day to battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint; do not fear, or tremble, or be in dread of them;
    [web] and shall tell them, Hear, Israel, you draw near this day to battle against your enemies: don't let your heart faint; don't be afraid, nor tremble, neither be you scared of them;
    [ylt] and said unto them, Hear, Israel, ye are drawing near to-day to battle against your enemies, let not your hearts be tender, fear not, nor make haste, nor be terrified at their presence,
    [bbe] Give ear, O Israel: today you are going forward to the fight; let your heart be strong; do not let uncontrolled fear overcome you because of those who are against you;
20:4 [cbgb] 因为耶和华你们的 神与你们同去,要为你们与仇敌争战,拯救你们。 < | >
    [niv] For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory."
    [asv] for Jehovah your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
    [jnd] for Jehovah your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
    [kjv] For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
    [nwb] For the LORD your God he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
    [rsv] for the LORD your God is he that goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to give you the victory.'
    [web] for Yahweh your God is he who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.
    [ylt] for Jehovah your God He who is going with you, to fight for you with your enemies -- to save you.
    [bbe] For the Lord your God goes with you, fighting for you to give you salvation from those who are against you.
20:5 [cbgb] 官长也要对百姓宣告说,谁建造房屋,尚未奉献,他可以回家去,恐怕他阵亡,别人去奉献。 < | >
    [niv] The officers shall say to the army: "Has anyone built a new house and not dedicated it? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else may dedicate it.
    [asv] And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return to his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.
    [jnd] And the officers shall speak unto the people, saying, What man is there that hath built a new house, and hath not dedicated it? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man dedicate it.

    [bbe] And let the overseers say to the people, If there is any man who has made for himself a new house and has not gone into it, let him go back to his house, so that in the event of his death in the fight, another may not take his house for himself.
20:6 [cbgb] 谁种葡萄园,尚未用所结的果子,他可以回家去,恐怕他阵亡,别人去用。 < | >
    [niv] Has anyone planted a vineyard and not begun to enjoy it? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else enjoy it.
    [asv] And what man is there that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not used the fruit thereof? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man use the fruit thereof.
    [jnd] And what man is there that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not eaten of it? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it.
    [kjv] And what man is he that hath planted a vineyard, and hath not yet eaten of it? let him also go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man eat of it.

    [niv] Has anyone become pledged to a woman and not married her? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else marry her."
    [asv] And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

    [bbe] Or if any man is newly married and has had no sex relations with his wife, let him go back to his house, so that in the event of his death in the fight, another man may not take her.
20:8 [cbgb] 官长又要对百姓宣告说,谁惧怕胆怯,他可以回家去,恐怕他弟兄的心消化,和他一样。 < | >
    [niv] Then the officers shall add, "Is any man afraid or fainthearted? Let him go home so that his brothers will not become disheartened too."
    [asv] And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and faint-hearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart melt as his heart.
    [jnd] And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and shall say, What man is there that is timid and faint-hearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart melt as well as his heart.
    [kjv] And the officers shall speak further unto the people, and they shall say, What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? let him go and return unto his house, lest his brethren's heart faint as well as his heart.
    [nwb] And the officers shall speak further to the people, and they shall say, What man fearful and faint-hearted? let him go and return to his house, lest his brethren's heart should faint as well as his heart.
    [rsv] And the officers shall speak further to the people, and say, 'What man is there that is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go back to his house, lest the heart of his fellows melt as his heart.'
    [web] The officers shall speak further to the people, and they shall say, What man is there who is fearful and faint-hearted? let him go and return to his house, lest his brother's heart melt as his heart.
    [ylt] `And the authorities have added to speak unto the people, and said, Who the man that is afraid and tender of heart? -- let him go and turn back to his house, and the heart of his brethren doth not melt like his heart;
    [bbe] And let the overseers go on to say to the people, If there is any man whose heart is feeble with fear, let him go back to his house before he makes the hearts of his countrymen feeble.
20:9 [cbgb] 官长对百姓宣告完了,就当派军长率领他们。 < | >
    [niv] When the officers have finished speaking to the army, they shall appoint commanders over it.
    [asv] And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people, that they shall appoint captains of hosts at the head of the people.
    [jnd] And it shall be, when the officers have ended speaking unto the people, that they shall place captains of the hosts at the head of the people.
    [kjv] And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking unto the people that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people.
    [nwb] And it shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking to the people, that they shall make captains of the armies to lead the people.
    [rsv] And when the officers have made an end of speaking to the people, then commanders shall be appointed at the head of the people.
    [web] It shall be, when the officers have made an end of speaking to the people, that they shall appoint captains of hosts at the head of the people.
    [ylt] and it hath come to pass as the authorities finish to speak unto the people, that they have appointed princes of the hosts at the head of the people.
    [bbe] Then, after saying these words to the people, let the overseers put captains over the army.
20:10 [cbgb] 你临近一座城,要攻打的时候,先要对城里的民宣告和睦的话。 < | >
    [niv] When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace.
    [asv] When thou drawest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.
    [jnd] When thou approachest unto a city to fight against it, thou shalt proclaim peace unto it.
    [kjv] When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.
    [nwb] When thou comest nigh to a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace to it.
    [rsv] "When you draw near to a city to fight against it, offer terms of peace to it.
    [web] When you draw near to a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace to it.
    [ylt] `When thou drawest near unto a city to fight against it, then thou hast called unto it for Peace,
    [bbe] When you come to a town, before attacking it, make an offer of peace.
20:11 [cbgb] 他们若以和睦的话回答你,给你开了城,城里所有的人都要给你效劳,服事你。 < | >
    [niv] If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you.
    [asv] And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that are found therein shall become tributary unto thee, and shall serve thee.
    [jnd] And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then all the people that are found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.
    [kjv] And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.
    [nwb] And it shall be, if it shall make thee answer of peace, and open to thee, then it shall be, all the people found therein, shall be tributaries to thee, and they shall serve thee.
    [rsv] And if its answer to you is peace and it opens to you, then all the people who are found in it shall do forced labor for you and shall serve you.
    [web] It shall be, if it make you answer of peace, and open to you, then it shall be, that all the people who are found therein shall become tributary to you, and shall serve you.
    [ylt] and it hath been, if Peace it answer thee, and hath opened to thee, then it hath come to pass -- all the people who are found in it are to thee for tributaries, and have served thee.
    [bbe] And if it gives you back an answer of peace, opening its doors to you, then all the people in it may be put to forced work as your servants.
20:12 [cbgb] 若不肯与你和好,反要与你打仗,你就要围困那城。 < | >
    [niv] If they refuse to make peace and they engage you in battle, lay siege to that city.
    [asv] And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:
    [jnd] And if it will not make peace with thee, but will make war with thee, then thou shalt besiege it;
    [kjv] And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:
    [nwb] And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:
    [rsv] But if it makes no peace with you, but makes war against you, then you shall besiege it;
    [web] If it will make no peace with you, but will make war against you, then you shall besiege it:
    [ylt] `And if it doth not make peace with thee, and hath made with thee war, then thou hast laid siege against it,
    [bbe] If however it will not make peace with you, but war, then let it be shut in on all sides:
20:13 [cbgb] 耶和华你的 神把城交付你手,你就要用刀杀尽这城的男丁。 < | >
    [niv] When the LORD your God delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the men in it.
    [asv] and when Jehovah thy God delivereth it into thy hand, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:
    [jnd] and when Jehovah thy God delivereth it into thy hand, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:
    [kjv] And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:
    [nwb] And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thy hands, thou shalt smite every male of it with the edge of the sword:
    [rsv] and when the LORD your God gives it into your hand you shall put all its males to the sword,
    [web] and when Yahweh your God delivers it into your hand, you shall strike every male of it with the edge of the sword:
    [ylt] and Jehovah thy God hath given it into thy hand, and thou hast smitten every male of it by the mouth of the sword.
    [bbe] And when the Lord your God has given it into your hands, let every male in it be put to death without mercy.
20:14 [cbgb] 惟有妇女,孩子,牲畜,和城内一切的财物,你可以取为自己的掠物。耶和华你 神把你仇敌的财物赐给你,你可以吃用。 < | >
    [niv] As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder the LORD your God gives you from your enemies.
    [asv] but the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take for a prey unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which Jehovah thy God hath given thee.
    [jnd] only the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that shall be in the city, all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take as booty for thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee

    [bbe] But the women and the children and the cattle and everything in the town and all its wealth, you may take for yourselves: the wealth of your haters, which the Lord your God has given you, will be your food.
20:15 [cbgb] 离你甚远的各城,不是这些国民的城,你都要这样待他。 < | >
    [niv] This is how you are to treat all the cities that are at a distance from you and do not belong to the nations nearby.
    [asv] Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.
    [jnd] Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities that are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.
    [kjv] Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.
    [nwb] Thus shalt thou do to all the cities very distant from thee, which not of the cities of these nations.

    [niv] However, in the cities of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes.
    [asv] But of the cities of these peoples, that Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth;
    [jnd] But of the cities of these peoples which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth,
    [kjv] But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:

    [bbe] But in the towns of these peoples whose land the Lord your God is giving you for your heritage, let no living thing be kept from death:

    [niv] Completely destroy them--the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites--as the LORD your God has commanded you.
    [asv] but thou shalt utterly destroy them: the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite; as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee;
    [jnd] but shalt utterly devote them to destruction, the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee;
    [kjv] But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:

20:18 [cbgb] 免得他们教导你们学习一切可憎恶的事,就是他们向自己 神所行的,以致你们得罪耶和华你们的 神。 < | >
    [niv] Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods, and you will sin against the LORD your God.
    [asv] that they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so would ye sin against Jehovah your God.
    [jnd] that they teach you not to do according to all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods, so that ye sin against Jehovah your God.
    [kjv] That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your God.
    [nwb] That they may not teach you to do after all their abominations which they have done to their gods; so would ye sin against the LORD your God.
    [rsv] that they may not teach you to do according to all their abominable practices which they have done in the service of their gods, and so to sin against the LORD your God.
    [web] that they not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they have done to their gods; so would you sin against Yahweh your God.
    [ylt] so that they teach you not to do according to all their abominations which they have done to their gods, and ye have sinned against Jehovah your God.
    [bbe] So that you may not take them as your example and do all the disgusting things which they do in the worship of their gods, so sinning against the Lord your God.
20:19 [cbgb] 你若许久围困,攻打所要取的一座城,就不可举斧子砍坏树木。因为你可以吃那树上的果子,不可砍伐。田间的树木岂是人,叫你糟蹋麽, < | >
    [niv] When you lay siege to a city for a long time, fighting against it to capture it, do not destroy its trees by putting an ax to them, because you can eat their fruit. Do not cut them down. Are the trees of the field people, that you should besiege them?
    [asv] When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by wielding an axe against them; for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down; for is the tree of the field man, that it should be besieged of thee?
    [jnd] When thou shalt besiege a city many days, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by lifting up an axe against them; for thou canst eat of them; and thou shalt not cut them down, for is the tree of the field a man that it should be besieged?
